AKSEL KJERSGAARD
(1921 – 1997)
Aksel Kjersgaard was a Danish cabinetmaker and designer who founded his eponymous furniture company in Odder in 1952. Rooted in the Danish tradition of fine joinery and functional simplicity, Kjersgaard’s designs are known for their precise craftsmanship and minimalist elegance. He collaborated with notable designers such as Kai Kristiansen, producing mirrors, chests, and sideboards in teak and rosewood that embodied the understated refinement of Danish modernism.
His furniture combined sculptural proportion with practicality, emphasizing form through material rather than ornament. The company’s work helped establish Denmark’s reputation for quality craftsmanship in the postwar era, and Aksel Kjersgaard’s pieces continue to be admired for their purity and timeless modern appeal.
